In the Darkness.   
 The darkness surrounding him seemed to expand into infinity. Alex felt hopelessly lost. The aurora-like lights above him reflected off the smooth edges of the dark clouds, defining their rounded features. Alex picked a floating spirit and began to follow it. He concentrated deeply.   "Hello?"   Nothing.   "Hi there!" Alex tried enthusiastically.  
 The black spirit didn't respond. It continued on, pushing into the unknown. Alex picked another and repeated the process with the same result. Alex moved around to another spirit and, with a child-li The Harvester: Chapter 3

 Alex hurried to his usual spot next to the restrooms and sat down. He ran his fingers through his now tangled hair, frustrated. The moisture always ruined it. The next train to 2-A  wasn't until 9:15. He produced his mp3 player from the secret pocket on the inside of his jacket. Sounds of music drowned out the gentle clamor of the subway:   "Don't fear the reaper..."  
 He sat there, lost in the music. He felt the soft vibrations of an approaching train and then the screeching of metal. Alex liked this particular spot because of the abundance of the graffiti. It was beautiful. All th The Harvester: Chapter 2

8:56 AM. Wednesday   
 The sidewalk was slick with water. People in cloaks carrying umbrellas walked hurriedly down the thin lanes. A boy called Alex, cloaked in his hood, and a few others broke away from the swiftly moving group and stepped cautiously down the stairs to the subway. After reaching the dry tunnel they continued on briskly. A normal day.
